I STILL Love BreakoutEDU

I STILL Love BreakoutEDU

When I first met James Sanders (and his dung beetle), it was January of 2015. We were in Las Vegas, and this was Ro’s and my very first EdTechTeam Summit. There’s a lot more funny backstory to that first Summit (it’s been told and will continue to be told, but let’s just say that we truly didn’t know what we were getting ourselves into and arrived… umm… illprepared? for a full day of learning), but this blog post is not…

Ordinary People

Ordinary People

Maybe it’s obvious to me because I grew up surrounded by celebrities – Newport Beach, California in the 70’s – home to and vacation destination of many Hollywood stars. My sister’s baby shower was hostessed by Nancy Ebsen, wife of Buddy (“Jed Clampett”, “The Scarecrow”, “Barnaby Jones”). My family had dinners with “Tarzan” (Ron Ely), President Nixon’s Press Secretary, Ron Ziegler, and we have a photo of my sister sitting on Lloyd Bridges’ lap. I went to preschool with Ethan…

Bridging the Divide

Bridging the Divide

So. Yesterday was a PD day in our district. We are lucky enough to have an administrative team that understands the value of “Choose Your Own PD” (most of the time 😉 ) rather than making us all sit through the same presentation, and we had a day full of 50-minute sessions that covered PE, our new ELA/ELD adoption, break-out grade level PLCs, and technology (YAY!). Ro and I were “split up” – she worked with K-2 while I worked…

Microblogs of CA Geo Teachers Institute #CAGTI17

Microblogs of CA Geo Teachers Institute #CAGTI17

Microblog is different from a traditional blog because it will have content that is short usually with more pictures and will be posted more frequently. At ISTE17, I was overwhelmed by the experience. I took notes, pictures, videos …but now to write a blog about my days at ISTE.  Well, that is a lot of information to discuss but I did a post about my takeaways from it. However, during my time at ISTE, I loved Ann Kozma’s idea of microblogging using PicCollage….

Come to the Table!

Come to the Table!

One of my favorite things to do during summer is to sit at the beach and read a professional book. It’s even more fun when the book’s author is a friend and I can TOTALLY hear his voice as I’m reading (especially in his amazing footnotes – I’m usually #TeamEndNotes, but John gets a pass!). So, yesterday, as temperatures at home flirted with 105*, I took off to the beach with a friend who will be teaching TK next year,…

Big Flippin’

Big Flippin’

Yesterday morning, I had the pleasure of popping in to my friend’s summer school “credit recovery” geometry class. Kristan teaches Geometry during the school year and does a wonderful job on integrating technology into her mathematics instruction. Earlier last week, she mentioned having her students use Padlet (which I LOVE … see Ro’s post on that platform!) to reflect on a super-interactive lesson, and I asked, via Twitter,  if she had tried Flipgrid. She said that she was excited to…

TechFairies at ISTE

TechFairies at ISTE

I’m writing during our flight to San Antonio and I’m a full of anticipation for this is our first time attending ISTE! We are so excited, especially to be in San Antonio as well (that’s on MO’s bucket list). So far we have met one new friend in the flight and she is a first-timer as well! Not only are we excited about the learning that will take place, but for the additions to our PLN that we will…

Flipgrid is Flippin’ Awesome!

Flipgrid is Flippin’ Awesome!

Good morning! Just a quick drive-by to offer up some work for you to do. 🙂 Because: If you haven’t used Flipgrid yet, you need to. Here’s an opportunity to try it from a student’s perspective. You’re helping me out! It’s summer and I’m nosey. All of the above. I’m also practicing with embedding something (this Flipgrid “Card”) on our blog. Ever learning!

Circling Around Again

Circling Around Again

Ro & I have had a few “back where we started” moments in our 2.5-year-long EdTech adventures. Our first was being presenters at the EdTechTeam Summit in Las Vegas January of 2016. A year before, we’d driven the 5 hours to Sin City, not knowing how incredibly excited we would be by the end of the weekend and how it would change our lives – for the better. Having the opportunity – and confidence in our skills – to present…

This way to the NEW TechFairies site!

This way to the NEW TechFairies site!

Welcome to our new site! I blame Meagan Kelly! Her site, I-Heart-EDU, is sharp, clean, and easy to use. I reached out to her and informed her that I wanted to have all our resources, presentations, and blog posts to be featured on ONE site. I have always been a fan of free, but MO and I (at least, I think MO wants that…I’ll find out when she wakes up) want a more professional looking site for all our edtech adventures!…
